Last year brought a first-of-its kind policy to reduce carbon pollution, and an historic climate agreement with China, and one of the best months for coal plant retirements; it was also the best year for solar panel installations, according to the 2014 report for the Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal Campaign. The MacArthur-supported campaign aims to retire one-third of the nation’s more than 500 coal plants by 2020, replacing them with clean energy solutions such as wind, solar, and geothermal.
