Statement from Kofi Annan Regarding the MacArthur Award for International Justice
December 10, 2007 | Press release | Human Rights

“I am honored to receive the MacArthur Award for International Justice.

“Advancing international justice should speak to the collective conscience of the world.  The emerging international justice system, including the International Criminal Court and the principle of ‘the Responsibility to Protect,’ demonstrates humanity’s unfailing resolve to create a more just world.  Now is an important time for all leaders to unite in support of a comprehensive and fair international justice system.

“I thank the MacArthur Foundation for this Award and for its efforts to raise the profile of international justice issues.  I look forward to continuing my work to see global, lasting peace – a peace that only true justice can bring.”
