Housing remains the dominant asset of more than 47 million older Americans, 80 percent of whom are homeowners, according to a report by the Research Institute For Housing America. The MacArthur-supported report, A Profile of Housing and Health Among Older Americans, lays out basic facts about the current state of housing and health among older Americans a decade after the Seniors Housing Commission released a report to Congress on the challenges facing government and society in supporting an aging population. The report also found that 44 percent of older renters pay more than 30 percent of their income on rent, suggesting affordable housing is a concern.
