Rosewood carving

Some of the world’s most valued and endangered old-growth forests are being threatened by China’s growing demand of rosewood, according to a study by Forest Trends, a MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions recipient. Chinese furniture manufacturers’ imports of rosewood are used for traditional and Chinestyle furniture and décor. The study, and China’s custom data, shows rosewood imports in 2014 have reached an all-time high and have doubled in value. The trade is linked to the illegal reaping of rosewood in forests of Southeast Asia and Africa.
