The White House sees Chicago’s New Communities Program as a source for ideas on urban revitalization for the nation, the director of the White House Office of Urban Affairs, Adolfo Carrión, Jr., told 500 local leaders, community activists, and volunteers at the program’s annual assembly. The New Communities Program, the nation’s largest community and economic development effort, is a MacArthur-supported initiative to improve 16 low-income Chicago neighborhoods.
