Chicago voting

Illinois has enacted sweeping legislation to modernize its voter registration system. The new law provides for permanent voter registration on Election Day, expanding a successful pilot program; extends both early voting and voting by mail; and allows electronic voter registration at many government agencies. Grantees, including The Pew Charitable Trusts' Election Initiatives and Common Cause, provided research to inform the law, which was praised by the Brennan Center as “a major victory for voters.”
