Technology originally developed by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, with support from MacArthur, to help monitor human rights abuses in hard-to-reach places is the basis of the new Satellite Sentinel Project, which will beam live satellite images of human rights hot spots around the world to a publicly available website. The new Project has garnered support from actor George Clooney's organization, Not On Our Watch. The goal is to use the power of the media to help prevent human rights abuses and allow human rights organizations to better do their work. An early focus will be to monitor activities in Darfur during the referendum for independence.
