Kathy Im, MacArthur's Director for Journalism and Media, explores the vital role of unrestricted funding for journalism in an essay published by the American Press Institute. Her co-author is Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University Associate Professor Peter Slevin. "The work of the funders is to identify smart, innovative and ethical newsroom leaders and then trust them to do the right thing," they write.
