Nuclear Fatalities

A series of investigative reports by the Center for Public Integrity reveals a number of unpublicized accidents at U.S. nuclear weapons facilitites, including avoidable radiation exposures. The MacArthur-supported series, Nuclear Negligence, examined safety weaknesses at U.S. nuclear weapon sites operated by corporate contractors. It discovered that the penalities imposed by the government for these accidents were small, relative to the millions of dollars each of the contractors earn in annual profits.
