Mexico’s Supreme Court has ruled in favor of two women seeking abortions following sexual violence, due in part to legal efforts by Grupo de Información en Reproducción Elegida (GIRE), a MacArthur grantee. While abortion after rape is legal in Mexico, both women were denied abortion services by medical providers. They received legal assistance to fight for their rights from GIRE, and in both cases, the Court ruled that the women should receive the requested medical services under Mexican law.
