In a landmark judgment, the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice in Abuja, Nigeria, declared that Nigerians have an enforceable right to basic education. The judgment is based on a case filed by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), a MacArthur grantee working to promote transparency and accountability in Nigeria, against the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Universal Basic Education Commission of Nigeria.
