The U.S. Supreme Court upheld Florida’s ban on judicial candidates personally soliciting campaign contributions. Similar bans in 30 states that elect state and local judges will remain in place. "Judges are not politicians, even when they come to the bench by way of the ballot," Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the 5-4 majority. Research by MacArthur grantees Justice at Stake and the Brennan Center was cited by the Court, and Justice at Stake filed an amicus brief in the case.
