Community-and-police-200

More than 1,600 Chicago residents attended 19 conversations about police misconduct and community relations and then suggested 300 ways to improve police practices and restructure how police officers interact with residents. The Grassroots Alliance for Police Accountability (GAPA) – a coalition of community organizations committed to making neighborhoods safer, improving police practices, and transforming the relationship between the Chicago Police Department and the city’s communities – summarizes the discussions in its Community Conversations Report. In the future, GAPA plans to work with local and national organizations to exchange ideas, learn best practices, and guide recommendations for a community oversight board.
