The City of Chicago is joining with the MacArthur Foundation and Mozilla to enable children to earn recognition for engaging in learning during the summer and help teachers track student achievement next fall. More than 143 organizations have joined the Summer of Learning initiative, offering summer programs for thousands of children. Through Mozilla's free Open Badge platform, each organization will design their own creative digital "badges" for children to earn when they complete a learning activity, from field trips to experiments to team projects. The badges can then be carried back to school and job fairs.
