The Cambodian government has agreed to protect an additional 65,000 hectares, creating the Prey Siem Pang Lech Wildlife Sanctuary. The designation now completes protection of more than 130,000 hectares spanning the Western Siem Pang forest that MacArthur-supported BirdLife International has been working to preserve. The deciduous forest is home to the endangered eld’s deer and five critically endangered bird species, including half the world’s population of the white-shouldered ibis. BirdLife works closely with the government to plan the management of the forest and its species.
