December 6, 2012 | From the field | Higher Education in Russia & Africa

A new data center at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, the first of its kind in Nigeria, will enable the University to provide multimedia services, mobile projection systems, video streaming, and VoIP. The center was acknowledged in the Golden Jubilee celebration speech by Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan. Additionally, the new state-of-the art Center of Information Technology at Bayero University Kano will streamline the University’s admissions process and form the hub for a new College of Computer Science and Information Technology that will offer programs in computer science, software engineering, information technology, and computer studies. The software engineering program is the first of its kind in Nigeria, and the National Universities Commission has asked the University to lend its expertise in this field to other institutions. Both projects were supported by MacArthur.
