Established in 2000 as a local chapter of the global ActionAid federation, Action Aid Nigeria stands for promoting human rights and eradicating poverty. The Organization works with Nigeria's poor to help fight injustice and eradicate poverty. Through the project "Promoting Girls Retention and Enrollment in Secondary School" Action Aid Nigeria aims to improve girls' access to quality secondary education in Sokoto state by institutionalizing a school-based management model that helps to reduce political, economic, and socio-cultural barriers to school-aged children (especially girls) attending and learning in school. By implementing the model in pilot schools, the organization expects to demonstrate the effect and impact on access, quality of education, and learning outcomes and thereby stimulate the support necessary for state-wide adoption and implementation of the policy on school based management recently put in place by the Sokoto state government. The award supports (a) the establishment, operation, and evaluation of the model in select schools; (b) a partnership and coordination among the school based management committees and relevant state education agencies; and (c) strategic advocacy for systematic promotion and implementation of the new state policy for the model in Sokoto state.
