As part of the Foundation’s How Housing Matters to Families and Communities initiative, LeadingAge researchers will compare costs and residents’ health and quality of life in service-enriched, publicly-assisted housing to the same attributes in traditional non-service-enriched publicly-assisted housing and market-rate housing. They will use a dataset that matches Department of Housing and Urban Development demographic information on residents with health services utilization information from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Chronic Condition Warehouse to test the hypotheses that people who live in service-enriched senior housing properties have fewer emergency room visits, hospital stays, and transfers to nursing homes.
