Founded in 2010, the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) is an independent Nigerian nonprofit media organization with a mission to promote transparency, accountability, and good governance through investigative reporting. With this X-Grant award, the media and journalism cohort members will attend the Global Investigative Journalism Conference (GIJC) in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2023. The conference, the largest gathering of journalists, will focus on skills building and presentations on investigative reporting, data journalism, and cross-border collaboration worldwide. It enhances media best practices and fosters collaboration among media practitioners.

Founded in 2010, the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) is an independent Nigerian nonprofit media organization with a mission to promote transparency, accountability, and good governance through investigative reporting. This final award supports ICIR’s training of journalists in investigative techniques, data journalism, budget analysis, public procurement, and contracting processes, and contributes to building a sustainable, resilient financial model for the media in Nigeria. ICIR trains early- and mid-career journalists, supports corruption investigations, and promotes female journalists’ inclusion in the journalism pipeline for corruption investigation across Nigerian states and local governments. It collaborates with state- and community-level media organizations to widely disseminate investigative reports on corruption and coordinates with On Nigeria’s Joinbodi and criminal justice cohorts to galvanize collective action for accountability. Finally, it trains and supports media owners, entrepreneurs, business managers, and editors to pilot business models that enhance sustainable investigative journalism and media practices in Nigeria. The award is expected to contribute to On Nigeria’s goal of reducing corruption and strengthening accountability, transparency, and participation.

The ICIR’s mission is to promote good governance and entrench democratic values by reporting, exposing, and combating corruption. A current grantee of the On Nigeria program, ICIR will use this award in collaboration with African Women in Media to host a virtual 2021 conference with the theme “Building Resilience: The Future of Media in Africa.” The conference brings together media practitioners, civil society leaders, and accountability advocates across gender and geography to discuss the media landscape and how it affects women and other players. This support contributes to strengthening media and journalism from a gender equity and social inclusion (GESI) lens.

The ICIR’s mission is to promote good governance and entrench democratic values by reporting, exposing, and combating corruption. An existing grantee of the On Nigeria program, this award supports five participants from among On Nigeria grantees to the international conference on whistleblowing in Glasgow, Scotland, Sept. 11-13, 2019. The conference brings together civil society leaders and accountability advocates engaged in promotion of whistleblowing principles and protection of rights of whistleblowers to reflect on whistleblowing, lessons and opportunities for collaboration. The support contributes to implementation of whistleblowing policy and anticorruption in Nigeria.

Founded in 2010, The International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) is an independent, nonprofit investigative news organization that seeks to promote transparency and accountability through robust and objective investigative reporting. The ICIR’s mission is to promote good governance and entrench democratic values by reporting, exposing, and combating corruption. This award enables ICIR to deepen its work on investigative reporting through data and infographics, budget and procurement tracking and monitoring, and hands-on practical sessions. It also allows ICIR to produce and disseminate 80 investigative reports over a period of two years. Further, the organization’s work with On Nigeria grantees to amplify its reports on various platforms continues under this award. Additional activities include the convening of four high-level townhall meetings in collaboration with other grantees across the country. Key stakeholders, including government officials and anti-corruption agency representatives, are expected to attend the town hall meetings to interact with, and answer questions from the public. This award deepens the understanding and reporting of public procurement processes and corrupt practices to promote accountability.

Located in Abuja, Nigeria, the International Centre for Investigative Reporting is a nonprofit media organization dedicated to employing robust, investigative journalism to promote accountability, transparency, and good governance. With this award, the Centre is strengthening the capacity of journalists to investigate and report on budgetary and procurement processes in the country.  The Centre is collaborating with the Public Private Development Centre, an On Nigeria grantee, to train and mentor 30 journalists on  investigative journalism techniques, data use, and budget and procurement tracking and monitoring. The organization is also providing funding for journalists to conduct in-depth field investigations. The project contributes to expanding the network of investigative journalists and promoting the culture of investigative work in Nigeria’s media. The Centre is coordinating with other Foundation grantees to implement the project.
