The World Federalist Movement –Institute for Global Policy (WFM) works with civil society and governments to advance global peace and justice through the application of international law and the development of democratic institutions. This project aims to increase the transparency and accountability of the 2016 selection of the next UN Secretary-General. Activities include: providing technical assistance to states that support selection reform; engaging with states reluctant to change; serving as an online information portal; and coordinating global civil society partners. In this effort, WFM is joined by the UK-based United Nations Association (UNA-UK), interested governments, and a global cohort of civil society organizations. Among the project’s expected outcomes are in-country debates and consultations; an offical job description for the position and timeline for selection; the inclusion of women candidates; and public debates and interviews to raise candidates’ public visibility.
