This grant to the Initiative for Maternal Mortality Programme Assessment (Immpact) Project at the University of Aberdeen will promote the rigorous use of accountability mechanisms to reduce maternal mortality in Nigeria. Activities will include training local partners in appropriate maternal death review methodologies, and a pilot test of a "maternity data bank."
To research infection control practices for reducing maternal deaths and for initial development of a journal on maternal and newborn health (over three years).
To support the first phase of a project investigating the effectiveness of infection control practices for reducing maternal deaths from sepsis.
