The renewal award supports the continuation of a series of live events under the AtlanticLIVE’s platform to convene diverse constituent groups in conversation on criminal justice topics. The events include organizing a session on race and justice at the annual AtlanticLIVE Festival; curating a panel for the annual Safety and Justice Challenge meetings; and supporting the Progress Report series, which explores race relations in the United States. Through the events platform, The Atlantic seeks to continue its experimentation and innovation in its approaches to covering criminal justice reform and building on the dedicated audience for these issues that were cultivated under past awards.

In addition to the digital and print reporting projects, the award also supports The AtlanticLIVE’s Race + Justice events to produce a series of convenings in Safety and Justice Challenge jurisdictions that bring together state, local, and community stakeholders to discuss local criminal justice reform.

The award supports digital reporting, The Atlantic Race+Justice Summit, and a series of roundtable dinners with state and local stakeholders from the public and private sector on racial and ethnic disparities in the administration of justice and what policies are needed to promote systems reform.

The award enables the creation of a criminal justice track that addresses racial and ethnic disparities in the administration of justice and what policies are needed to promote systems reform.
