The European Humanities University (EHU) is a Western-style liberal arts university, founded in 1992 in Minsk, Belarus. Following its forced closure by the regime of Belarusian President Lukashenka in 2004, EHU has operated as a university-in-exile in Lithuania. The recommended grant will help pave the way for EHU’s long-term sustainability by seeding a new endowment fund, to be operated by the Nordic Council of Ministers. MacArthur grant funds will be used for EHU’s new endowment. Should the endowment fund fail to reach its goals, the MacArthur grant may be used as a reserve fund for EHU.
