International Latino Cultural Center of Chicago

Chicago, Illinois

Grants

2015 (1 year 3 months)
$50,000

The International Latino Cultural Center of Chicago develops and promotes Latino cultures through presenting films, music, dance, theater, and other types of art both within and outside Chicago's Latino communities. It also produces the Latino Music Festival in Chicago, which features Latin American classical music. The International Latino Cultural Center of Chicago selected one of its frequent partners, The Avalon String Quartet, a Chicago based chamber group, to participate in an exchange with Q-Arte String Quartet based in Bogota, Columbia. The exchange will include classes, workshops, and concerts in Chicago as part of the Latino Music Festival and in Columbia. Two new works for string quartet will be created and premiered; one is being developed by an American Latino composer and one is being developed by a composer from Columbia. This grant supports travel, accommodations, artist fees, composer commissions, marketing, equipment and venue rentals, and documentation. It is recommended as part of the International Connections Fund.
