2019 (5 years)
$10,000,000

Acento Acción Local was founded in 2019 to strengthen local-level human rights work in Mexico. Through providing grants and technical assistance to local organizations and building leadership, entrepreneurship, and collective action, Acento seeks to bring human rights guarantees closer to the thousands of people in Mexico whose rights have been violated in the context of violence unleashed in 2006. This support includes but also goes beyond traditional grantmaking, with efforts to help strengthen activists and organizations and enable them to be more successful in their advocacy, legal, and social strategies; facilitate communications campaigns; build bridges by engaging outliers such as the private sector; and generating more donor confidence in supporting human rights work by smaller actors.
