$350,000

Established in 2011, BudgIT is a Nigerian non-profit promoting transparency and accountability in public finance through creative and easy-to-understand data analyses and presentations. A past awardee of the Foundation’s Human Rights program, this award helps BudgIT use data analysis and visualization of education budget allocations and expenditures to promote effective and efficient utilization of public funds in the sector.  BudgIT is training data analysts and visualization experts; developing infographics of the 2016, 2017, and 2018 education budgets; disseminating the analyses; and supporting communities to track local education projects of the Ministry of Education, Universal Basic Education Commission, and Tertiary Education Trust Fund.

This award is part of a larger package of complementary awards that is expected to increase transparency in education finances in select states, strengthen local accountability practices, and contribute to a reduction in corruption.

2013 (2 years 10 months)

The grant to BudgIT is to improve the communication strategy of civil society in its drive to promote accountability, citizen engagement, and institutional reform.
