Centro de Investigación y Capacitación Propuesta Cívica contributes to advancing democracy in Mexico through research, litigation, citizen participation, and public policy engagement. The award promotes greater accountability by prosecutor’s offices in investigating crimes against journalists through strategic litigation, support for and legal representation of victims, and advocacy efforts to strengthen access to justice for the families of disappeared and assassinated journalists in Mexico. The work is part of a broader strategy to increase government accountability in investigating and prosecuting crimes as a way to reduce impunity.

Centro de Investigación y Capacitación Propuesta Cívica contributes to advancing democracy in Mexico through research, litigation, citizen participation and public policy engagement. The award supports advocacy and litigation to promote improvements to investigations into attacks against journalists and human rights defenders. In addition, the project includes advocacy efforts to strengthen access to justice for the families of disappeared journalists in Mexico, and improved procedures and practices for investigating these crimes.

Centro de Investigación y Capacitación Propuesta Civica aims to contribute to democratization in Mexico through research, monitoring, and public policy engagement. It provides legal counsel and representation for human rights defenders and journalists at risk, and seeks to establish precedents for government protections of these individuals. The project aims to weaken the prevailing impunity for crimes against defenders and journalists in Mexico and increase the space in Mexico for reporting and working on sensitive topics.
