The project provides a forum for mayors to exchange ideas on criminal justice reform, gain insight from policies in other jurisdictions, and learn about cutting-edge research. Through creation of new research materials, social media engagement, virtual and in-person convenings, and public conferences, members can explore and adopt the interventions and innovations developed by member cities, including the Safety and Justice Challenge Network sites.

With this award, CAP convenes researchers studying a federal immigration program, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, which provides temporary relief from deportation to certain young, undocumented immigrants. Researchers identify data and analysis to inform litigation on the legality of the program.

Housed in the Center for American Progress, the Washington Center for Equitable Growth is a new policy-oriented research and grantmaking organization that advances evidence on how structural changes in the economy, particularly as they relate to economic inequality, affect economic growth. Through a series of convenings, working groups and research distillation, the Center is building stronger relationships between academics and policymakers with the goal of establishing an evidence-based discussion about the relationship between inequality and economic growth, economic stability and the democratic process that will lead to sound policy recommendations and solutions.

The Center for American Progress conducts research and public education on a wide range of domestic policy issues, including health care, public education reform, economic mobility, housing and energy. It will use this grant to develop and publish a research paper documenting the key features, innovations and challenges of some two dozen programs that provide financing for the "retrofitting" of multi-family, rental housing nationwide. The project’s goal is to help policymakers and leaders in the housing and energy fields increase the availability of workable financing programs to help more building owners improve their properties for long-term energy efficiency and affordability.
