Youth FX, based in Albany, NY, is a nonprofit organization designed to empower young people by teaching them the technical and creative aspects of digital filmmaking and media production. Its supports youth between the ages of 10 and 24 to develop skills in filmmaking and other emerging forms of digital media. Since 2016, it has operated the NeXt Doc Fellowship, which has become a leading professional development program for emerging documentary filmmakers from diverse backgrounds between the ages of 20 and 24, enabling them to make significant progress on their projects, and engage in current conversations about the state of ethics in the documentary film field with peers and more experienced filmmakers. This grant provides general operating support, and the intended outcomes of this work are a stronger support system for young emerging documentary filmmakers from diverse backgrounds and experiences across the United States.

The outcome of the NeXt Doc Fellowship is a strong network of emerging nonfiction filmmakers of color who have the skills and access to build careers and a community of peers with whom these filmmakers can collaborate to produce nonfiction multimedia content from their perspectives.
