The Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) is an annual voluntary meeting of UN member states and observers, held in conjunction with a parallel gathering of civil society actors. The GFMD is aimed at advancing understanding and cooperation on the mutually reinforcing relationship between migration and development and to foster practical and action-oriented outcomes. The sixth annual GFMD will be hosted in November 2012 by the Indian Ocean island nation of Mauritius. This MacArthur grant will cover salary and travel expenses for two migration experts selected by the Government of Mauritius to serve as special advisors and members of the Task Force charged with planning and implementing the 2012 GFMD.
