The award supports the activities of ClientEarth’s China office.

The Fund provides grants to these organizations to improve how they communicate about environmental laws and standards, collect scientifically-sound ecological data, and train their own staff on relevant laws, regulations, and policy. New laws in place since 2015 provide these organizations with different opportunities to engage in the country’s implementation of environmental laws and policy. This award supports capacity building of Chinese environmental nongovernmental organizations.

In China, ClientEarth works closely with various partners, including the government, to strengthen compliance and implementation of environmental laws and other laws that benefit environmental protection. Activities include expert training for and international exchanges among environmental lawmakers, judges, prosecutors, and regulators; technical assistance to courts when assessing environmental public interest cases; and support to environmental nongovernmental organizations. The Foundation’s general operating support for ClientEarth’s China office helps ensure the organization can continue to meet the demand for its training and legal assistance in China.
