The Shedd utilizes its collection and programming to create a greater understanding and appreciation of wildlife and environmental stewardship. With this award, the Shedd builds its diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) initiative.

The Shedd houses over 100 habitats and six permanent exhibits that demonstrate the aquatic diversity of North and South America, Asia, Africa and Australia. More than 2 million people visit each year. More than 13,000 students participate in the aquarium’s educational programs.
