Radio Ambulante is a nonprofit newsroom that produces explanatory and narrative audio journalism in Spanish about issues facing Latin America and Latinx communities in the United States. Since 2012, its flagship podcast, Radio Ambulante, the first in Spanish to be distributed by NPR, has produced thought-provoking audio journalism in a creative narrative style. In 2020, it launched El hilo, a weekly news podcast exploring stories from around the Americas. This award supports general operations, and the intended outcomes of this work are in-depth explanatory and investigative reporting on underreported subjects generating greater understanding for audiences in the United States, Latin America, and around the world.

Radio Ambulante Studios, Inc. (Radio Ambulante) is a nonprofit newsroom established in 2011 to provide in-depth coverage of underreported stories and issues affecting people in Latin America and Latinos in the United States. It distributed its first podcast, Radio Ambulante, independently from 2011 to 2016, and in 2016, Radio Ambulante became the first Spanish-language podcast distributed by National Public Radio (NPR). Its reporters and stories have been featured on English-language NPR programs, and it has collaborated with other outlets including Univisión Noticias, and ESPN. Recent Radio Ambulante episodes have covered the crisis in Venezuela, immigration in the United States, the post-conflict transition in Colombia and elsewhere, and the use of technology in social and political movements. This general operating award enables Radio Ambulante to produce rigorous and nuanced narrative journalism about Latin America and the experiences of Latinos in the United States, distributed in a widening array of formats, thus deepening the awareness and understanding of the general public.
