MacArthur Fellow Dinaw Mengestu will be on reddit AMA to answer questions about his personal experience and writing. He will talk about the immigrant experience, particularly that of people whose memories are seared because they’ve escaped violence from their homelands. As an Ethiopian native who came to the United States with his family at the age of two, his personal experiences, as well as those of people close to him, shaped a lot of his writing, and he's also covered conflicts as a freelance journalist in Darfur, northern Uganda and eastern Congo.
