The Economic and Fiscal Impacts of Immigration

April 27, 2017 | 2 PM - 3:30 PM

Immigration is a controversial issue. Debates about the effects of immigration on the economy, the labor market, wages of native-born workers, and jobs divide our country. The lack of mainstream consensus motivated the National Academy of Sciences to recruit fourteen leading researchers to collaborate on a nonpartisan report that analyzes existing data and research from the past twenty years and provides new estimates on the fiscal costs and benefits of immigration.

You are invited to a special briefing with the members of the NAS research panel to understand their findings and conclusions. The full report, The Economic and Fiscal Consequences of Immigration, is available for download. The report was supported by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, which joins the Chicago Council on Global Affairs in hosting this briefing. The event can be viewed via livestream.

Speakers:

Francine Blau, NAS Research Panel Chair; Frances Perkins Professor of Industrial and Labor Relations, Cornell University

Kim Rueben, NAS Research Panel Member; Senior Fellow at the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center, Urban Institute
