"Rutherford’s Travels"

April 15, 2016 - April 17, 2016

Pegasus Theater Chicago will present three staged readings of Rutherford’s Travels, a new theatrical work based on the seminal book Middle Passage by National Book Award winning author and MacArthur Fellow Dr. Charles Johnson. Adapted for the stage by David Barr, III, and Ilesa Duncan, Rutherford’s Travels is a spellbinding tale, presented with music, tracing the journey of Rutherford Calhoun, a newly freed, young ex-slave from Illinois who travels to New Orleans to make his fortune, where he stows away on a ship in an attempt to escape debtors and a forced marriage. The ship, however, is a slave ship headed for Africa. Rutherford’s Travels will make its world premiere this November at Pegasus.

Staged Readings: April 15 and 16, 7:30 p.m.; April 17, 3:00 p.m.
Reception: April 16, 6:00 p.m.
