Overview
It is often small or emerging organizations that generate provocative ideas, reframe an issue, or look at persistent problems in new ways. Some are particularly effective at delivering services or challenging old ways of approaching problems. Significant support for such promising organizations can contribute to progress on an issue or in an area of work, and can also position a small or new organization for long-term growth and impact.
What MacArthur Funds
The MacArthur Award for Creative & Effective Institutions (MACEI) is made to selected organizations that have budgets of less than $5 million per year, demonstrate exceptional creativity and effectiveness, have reached a critical or strategic point in their development, show strong leadership and stable financial management, have previously received MacArthur support, and work in one of the fields in which MacArthur is active. Award amounts are based on budget size. The award does not replace existing general operating or project support. A public event is held each year to recognize the organizations receiving awards, their work, and the important issues they address.
The Foundation does not seek or accept nominations for this award.
