stand up

Storytelling, standup comedy, and use of the arts are just some of the ways of mainstreaming science, according to a report about contemporary public science engagement by the Evolving Culture of Science Engagement Initiative, a MacArthur-supported collaboration between Culture Kettle and several MIT departments and units. The workshop brought 74 members of the public science engagement community together to discuss how the forms, settings, and cultural sensibilities of the field are changing. Participants focused on eight dimensions of change, including artistic expression and informality, and also discussed topics such as learning, civic engagement, and new research opportunities.
