The UN General Assembly convened their first Informal Thematic Debate on International Migration and Development to take stock of achievements to date; learn from effective policies and practices that promote migration’s positive contributions to development; and discuss solutions to obstacles that reduce the benefits of migration. The Global Forum on Migration and Development – of which MacArthur is the largest non-governmental supporter – was widely recognized for its role in spurring greater discussion on migration among rich, poor, and middle-income countries, and for helping create many policy innovations and new forms of international cooperation around the world.
