IMLS DML

report by the Institute of Museum and Library Services details the growing impact that learning labs in libraries and museums across the country are having on teen learning. The MacArthur-supported report examines the research that went into creating the labs and the practices that now support meaningful learning within them. Through two cycles of national grant competitions that began in 2011, 24 sites across the country were selected and given $100,000 planning and design grants. Modeled on the YouMedia space at Chicago’s Harold Washington Library, these teen spaces provide a variety of digital media and traditional tools for teens to explore their own interests, experiment, and create things with the support of knowledgable mentors.
