A study by MacArthur grantee the Wildlife Conservation Society and other partners found that the opening of a protected coral reef for a brief fishing season significantly depleted the wildlife in the area. The study, published in the journal Coral Reefs, examines a reef near Fiji which, despite being open for only five weeks in 2008, is still struggling to recover its wildlife populations.
