The Conservation Strategy Fund has published a report on the high level of environmental risk associated with continued road construction in the Amazon basin. According to the Fund, recipient of the MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions, roads built in the Amazon often become epicenters of deforestation and biodiversity loss. The report assesses 36 construction projects across five countries in the Amazon region and evaluates whether their benefits outweigh their environmental costs.
