PRH india mother

A network of civil society organizations in India have released an analysis of 124 maternal deaths from across the country in an effort to elucidate the circumstances under which women die in pregnancy, delivery, and post-partum. Several MacArthur grantees contributed to the report, including Action Research and Training for Health, Anusandhan Trust, SAHAJ-Society for Health Alternatives, Sahayog Society for Participatory Rural Development, and the Self Employed Women’s Association. The report highlights poorly equipped and overcrowded health facilities with poor adherence to quality standards as major barriers to reproductive health, and makes specific short and long term recommendations for strengthening the health system and improving accountability of private and public health institutions.
