Originally published in Spotlight on Poverty and Opportunity, MacArthur’s Policy & Housing Director Michael Stegman highlights the link between housing, health, economic opportunity, and education in his introduction to a series of commentaries on the key questions raised in the 2011 How Housing Matters conference. The conference was a project of the National Building Museum in collaboration with MacArthur Foundation’s How Housing Matters Initiative, a five-year, $25 million research initiative to deepen the literature on the effect that investments in affordable housing have on social and economic outcomes, beyond shelter.
