OXFORD, UNITED KINGDOM — The International Migration Institute (IMI) at the University of Oxford will carry out the African Great Lakes Region Mobility Project, an effort to enhance understanding of migration and displacement within the Great Lakes region. By identifying and analyzing underlying "normal" patterns of mobility, the project will enable design of more appropriate humanitarian and development initiatives – initiatives that can better distinguish between forced and voluntary migration and thereby lead to more appropriate and lasting solutions to displacement due to conflict, environmental change, or other factors.
