CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — DanceWorks Chicago is a contemporary dance company committed to the artistic growth of individual dancers and choreographers through training, collaboration, mentorship, and performance. This grant will support New Avenues/Nuevas Aventuras, which includes: (1) a three-week artistic residency with E.Danza dance company in Mexico City that will culminate in a new dance piece; and (2) the adaptation and performance of DanceWorks' production of Magical Movements for a Mexican audience with the Carlos Chavez Youth Orchestra and dancers selected from E.Danza. In turn, DanceWorks will select one emerging Mexican choreographer/dancer to join DanceWorks Chicago for 30 weeks in 2013. MacArthur funds will support the travel, lodging, and artist fees for DanceWorks for the residency in Mexico City, and its Chicago premiere.
The MacArthur Foundation awarded DanceWorks Chicago $50,000 between 2010 and 2013.
