The Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) is the world’s foremost venue for international dialogue and cooperation on migration issues. Beginning in 2007, each annual meeting of the GFMD has brought together over 140 governments and several hundred civil society activists for intensive discussions of issues at the intersection of migration, development, and human rights. Renewed MacArthur funding to the UN Department of Social and Cultural Affairs supports the work of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on International Migration and Development, who promotes the GFMD among national governments and provides the main link between the UN and the GFMD.
