SPOKANE, WASHINGTON — Washington State's Spokane County Juvenile Court has jurisdiction over multiple matters involving juveniles, and has, as one of Washington's Models for Change demonstration sites, worked with local stakeholders to develop, test, refine, and evaluate a model approach to truancy reduction and school reengagement that successfully resolves truancy matters without unnecessary, costly court involvement and detention. The Court will use this grant to spread this model approach to other Washington jurisdictions by distributing a toolkit to help other communities adopt the program, providing training and technical assistance in such replication sites, and modifying the toolkit to reflect their experience.

The MacArthur Foundation awarded Spokane County Juvenile Court $145,000 between 2010 and 2013.
