Shan Shui Conservation Center

Beijing, China

Grants

2013 (3 years)
$1,000,000

The Shan Shui Conservation Center (“Shan Shui”) is a Chinese NGO with fields programs in the southwest and western China. Under the grant, Shan Shui will engage communities and Chinese civil society by financing locally led conservation interventions in our priority sites and themes through a small grants mechanism. Civil society in southwest and western China has limited capacity to implement conservation interventions and often struggles to access resources. Shan Shui will identify and finance locally led interventions that focus on: •Conducting targeted research to answer urgent questions about ecosystem health, particularly aquatic ecosystems in the Upper Mekong and its tributaries. •Piloting and amplifying community-based conservation actions that emphasize management of sacred lands, watershed forests, grasslands, and wetlands. •Developing co-management mechanisms for formal protected areas that enable community participation. •Engaging the media as a tool for increasing public awareness of environmental issues

2011 (1 year)
$35,000

To identify priorities for conservation investment in the headwaters of the Mekong.

2010 (3 years)
$400,000

To support locally led ecosystem conservation in southwest and western China (over three years).
