The grant will support a study that assesses support for global democracy. Through a series of cases studies of leading and emerging democracies, the report will take an inventory of present efforts at democracy support globally, assess the strengths and weaknesses of current approaches, and make specific recommendations for an improved strategy.

Funds will be used to support three areas of the Freedom House’s work. First, its advocacy to advance an open Internet by amplifying the voices of civil society at global and regional Internet policy forums and standard-setting bodies. Second, in Mexico to increase the security of journalists, particularly online reporters, and to advance press freedoms. Third, to support Ethiopian human rights advocates who are campaigning for freedom of expression and association in their country.
